Capacity fun!

Image
Year 1 have had a fantastic week exploring capacity and volume in Maths. We have been comparing different containers using the language of full, empty, half full, quarter full, more than and less than. At the start of the week the children explored different containers in the classroom, estimating how many cups each one would hold.  Later on in the week, the children had lots of fun creating capacity puddles outside. They estimated how big the puddle size would be depending on which container they chose. Lots of fun and learning all round. Well done Year 1!

World Poetry Day - Thursday 21st March

Fraction Fun.

It was Iveson Maths Morning yesterday. Year 1 and 2 had lots of fun making fractions finders. They were able to find half of a given number and some children even found quarters as well!

Maths: Estimation Station

This morning Year 1 had so much fun measuring different objects round the room in centimetres. The children had to estimate how long the objects were first with a partner.  We also discovered what sorts of jobs used measuring, the children found out that builders, roofers, architects, chefs and artists use all sorts of measuring tools. Can you tell someone at home what was the longest object you found in the classroom?

World Book Day

Year 1 have had a fabulous day today. We have enjoyed all sorts of different activities relating to the book Tabby McTat by Julia Donaldson. Year 1 started the day by attending the World Book Day assembly, we learnt about what kinds of jobs you can have relating to books. In the afternoon, Year 1 continued their study of the Artist Georges Seurat and created pointlism paintings of Tabby McTat.  Year 1 ended the day exploring our brand new library. We were able to read some of the books with our reading buddies.
