Year 1 Iveson Blog

 In Science this half term, Year One are learning all about the 5 senses.  This week the children had the opportunity to try different smells and talked about them in their groups.  The children then sorted the smells into what they thought were good smells and bad smells. M.D said "You have two nostrils in your nose. They help you to smell." T.S said "I like this smell, it smells like my Mummy's perfume."

  In Design and Technology this half term, we are going to be designing and making our own Gingerbread Houses to link with our Traditional Tales topic.  This week, the children have been designing their own Gingerbread Houses and talking about their ideas with their peers. M.S said "My Gingerbread house is going to have a satellite so the Gingerbread Man can watch it."  E.M said "I want my Gingerbread house to have a tall door."

  In Science, Year One have been learning all about the human body. The children spoke about what they already knew and listed different body parts.  We then spoke as a class about each body part and what it helps us to do.  The children worked in groups and drew around one another. They helped each other to label the body parts using their phonics knowledge. 

  Welcome back to Year 1 - Finches and Owls Everybody looked so smart in their uniforms this morning, we have had a fantastic first day back.  The children enjoyed reading The Colour Monster by Anna Lllenas and creating one of their own. This afternoon we have created some bird themed art work linked to our new classrooms.
