Family Picnic

Image
Year 1 have had a fabulous day today working on their DT skills and sharing food with their family. The children chopped, peeled and grated lots of vegetables and made sandwiches for our lovely picnic. The children loved sharing what they had been up to and luckily, the sun was out as well! Thank you to all the parents and careers who came to share the lovely afternoon with us.

Science Investigators

Image
Last week in Science we completed an investigation where the children discussed what plants need to grow. Year 1 put one broad bean plant in the cupboard with no water, one in the cupboard with water, one near the window with no water and one bean plant near the window which has been watered daily.  The children predicted that the bean plant with water and sunlight would grow the best. They were right!  This afternoon the children got into pairs and planted their very own bean plant outside in the sunshine.

Fabulous Phonics

Image
As the Year 1 Phonics Screening test is just round the corner, the children have been practising finding the split digraph a–e in real and nonsense words using pipe cleaners.  Well done for working so hard this morning Year 1!

Art: Clay minibeasts

Image
On Friday last week the children used the new material of clay to sculpt their very own minibeasts. The children designed a range of creatures and they are very excited to paint them later on this week. Keep your eyes peeled for the finished products.

SPAG Superstars

Our spelling, punctuation and grammar focus this half term has been prefixes and suffixes. We have been focusing on the prefix ‘un’. The children worked really hard in teams to complete the prefix matching game.

Doubling Superstars

This week in Maths, Year 1 have completed lots of practical sessions where they found the doubles of numbers between 0-10.  Have a look at our fantastic work. Well done Year 1.
