Science Capital - Physio-Therapist Visitor

Image
In Science this half term, Year One have been learning all about the human body. The children have learnt all about the different parts of the body and the 5 senses. This week the children have had the experience to meet a Physio-Therapist, who is also one of our amazing parents. The children had the opportunity to ask questions about his job, look at equipment and spoke about a range of exercises to keep our bodies healthy. A.B asked "Do you test people's bodies to check they're healthy?" J.L said "Being flexible helps you move and stretch."

Design and Technology - Making our Gingerbread Houses

Image
In Year One this week, the children have continued their progression of skills by applying the cutting, folding and joining skills which we had practised in previous lessons.  The children listened to instructions carefully. They cut out their Gingerbread House net, folded the appropriate lines and ensured their house could stand up. After this the children looked back in their Curriculum book to see their design from our first DT lesson.  The children then looked closely at their design and began to decorate their Gingerbread House net. ✂🏡🌟

Science - The 5 Senses

Image
In Year One, we have been learning all about the 5 senses. The children had the opportunity to complete different activities linking to sight and touch. The children had the chance to look through coloured lenses, looking at interesting objects with magnifying glasses and draw whilst wearing a blindfold. The children spoke about how important our eyes are and how difficult it was to draw a picture without looking. Also, the children had the chance to use their hands to touch different objects and used different words to describe what they could feel.

Year One Visit to Lotherton Hall

Image
Year One have had an amazing time at Lotherton Hall today. The children had the opportunity to take part in a penguin workshop, where we learnt all about penguins. The children took part in some fun penguin activities and some children were able to dress up as penguins as well.  The children also had the opportunity to explore the ground and bird garden at Lotherton Hall. The children saw lots of different animals and got up close to the penguins too! We definitely had lots of fun! 🐧🐧🐧
