Year 1 Iveson Blog

This week we have moved our plants into a bigger pot. We moved them because they are getting bigger and the roots need more space to grow.  First we had to fill the new pots with compost. Next we carefully pulled the baby plants out of the old pot. We made a deep hole in the soil and gently put the plants into it. We had to be very careful not to break the roots. Then we covered up the roots with more compost. This helps the plant stand up straight and grow tall. Finally we watered the plants and we put the pots on the windowsill to get lots of sunlight.

We are growing sweet peas in Year 1. We are learning about the different parts of plants.  Before the Easter holiday we planted some sweet pea seeds. Now we are watching them grow! Above the soil we can see the plants sprouting. They have tiny, green leaves on them.  We looked at what was happening underneath the soil... We can see the sprout at the top and the root growing down under the soil.  Hopefully we will see our plants get more leaves, and even some pretty flowers!
