Religious Education - Mosque Visit

  In Religious Education this half term, Year One have been learning all about Islam and what it means to belong to a Mosque.  This week the children had a special visit from Afsha, who works for  Equilibria Leeds. Afsha delivered a fantastic workshop, where the children had the opportunity to ask questions,  explore artifacts and  listened to important Islamic stories. G.P "Muslims always pray towards Mecca." A.B "Muslims read the Qur'an lots of times during Ramadan."

Design and Technology - Skills

  In Year One we have been learning all about castles.  In Design and Technology the children have designed their very own castle which will have a pulley mechanism to move the castle drawbridge. The Year One children have been developing their DT skills this week by cutting out the battlements for their castle.  🏰🏰🏰

Home Learning - 10.03.23

  Maths In Maths this week, Year One have been learning about length and height.  Today, can you use some non-standard units to measure objects in your house? You could use lego, pencils or any other toys you might have. Example: How many lego cubes long is your favourite toy? Which object is the shortest? Which object is the longest? Writing Today, could you write some sentences about the snow near your house? Can you use some of these harder to read and spell words in your sentences? - because - many - was - there - my An example: I love playing in the snow because I like making snowmen. Reading Please can you read your home reading book with your adult today? Remember to ask your adult to write in your yellow reading diary.

Science - Everyday Materials

  In Science, Year One have been learning all about the properties of everyday materials.  This week the children had the opportunity to explore different materials. They worked in pairs and discussed whether the material was 'see through' or 'not see through'. Some of the materials caused lots of discussions and the children were able to apply relevant vocabulary.  E.M "This one is a bit see-through but you can't see all the way through. It's quite blurry." W.B "This one is definitely see through, it's made of plastic."
