Ordinal Numbers

Image
This week in Maths we will be focusing on ordinal numbers.  Today, the children worked practically using the correct language and labelled their own cube patterns.

Let’s go fly a kite!

Our Guided Reading text this week has been Storm by Sam Usher. The story was about a young boy and his Grandad going on an adventure with their kite. This week the children made their own kites and were able to use our WOW words from the book in their writing as well. The WOW words this week were: swooping, whistled, blustered, rattling and huffed. Ask your child to tell you what these words mean. The Finches class have also learnt the song Let’s Go Fly a Kite from the film Mary Poppins.

Super Maths!

Year 1 were introduced to the greater than and less than symbols on Friday. They watched the crocodile song and understood that the crocodile always eats the bigger number.  For example: 7 < 10. The children then solved tricky problems practically using their very own crocodile. All the children joined in and did a fantastic job.  Well done Year 1!

Art: Leaf Rubbing

On Friday, the Finches class went on an Autumn walk and picked some leaves. The children used pastels to rub over the top of their leaves and created some beautiful pieces of work. At the end of the lesson we shared our designs with one another and discussed what we liked about each one.
