Design and Technology - KS1 Sewing Club

Some Key Stage One children have been continuing their Textiles skills in Sewing Club.  This week, the children completed a running stitch on the material binka.  The children showed great resilience and are becoming more confident every week. Some children created different patterns using different coloured thread.  Well done Sewing Club! 🧵🧵🧵

PE - Skill Focus: Dynamic Balance

In PE this half term, Year One have been exploring different kinds of balances. Today, the children focused on m aintaining a balance on a line. One of our objectives was: I can walk forwards with fluidity and minimum wobble.

NSPCC Number Day

  Number Day is on its way!! Number day is taking place on the 3 rd  of February and we will be taking a new twist on number day this year. This year our number day will be linked to shape, space and measure. we will be participating in interactive maths activites all day, exploring everything linked to number and shape! Science - Everyday Materials

  In Science this half term the children have been learning about Everyday Materials.  Today the children had a STEM challenge, which was to build a strong bridge to ensure the bears wouldn't fall through. The children worked together in pairs and had some brilliant discussions. The children used appropriate vocabulary and tested different materials to see which material would be the strongest.  W.B "The plastic bridges are strong but the paper didn't work. It wasn't as strong." A.Z "I used lots of paper. It was thicker, so it was stronger."  

Art - Self Portraits

 In Art this half term the children are going to be learning all about Self Portraits.  The children looked at different famous self portraits from around the world and discussed what they could see.  The children the had time to sketch the portraits of our focus Artists in their sketch books. 

Geography - Polar Explorers

 In Geography this half term, Year One are going to be learning about the Polar regions. In today's Geography lesson the children explored images on the interactive whiteboard and discussed if they thought the images were in the Polar regions or not the Polar regions.  Then the children had the opportunity to sort these images within a group. E.M "That's Buckingham Palace in the snow but it's not in the Arctic." S.A "That's a iceberg, that's in a cold place."
