Rainbow fish - DT

Image
Over the past 2 weeks the children have designed and created their own rainbow fish. The children were challenged to use a variety of different textiles and materials to create their colourful creatures.  The glitter went everywhere!

English- Story Map of Sharing a Shell

Image
Today in English the children have been reading the story Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson. After listening to the story and thinking about the characters, setting and events we worked together to create a story map. The children went outside to read sentences to order and drew a story map together on the playground. Super work Year 1!

Maths- Outdoor learning

Image
Today, the children took their place value learning outside. We have been learning about tens and ones and using numbers to 100. We used natural resources to represent the numbers. We had lots of fun whilst learning!

Science - Tree Hunt

Image
We have taken advantage of the sunny weather to do a tree hunt!   We discussed different types of trees including deciduous (trees that lose their leaves every year) and evergreen (trees that keep their leaves all year round) and explored ways we can identify them.  The children hunted around the outdoor area to spot a variety of trees and could name some including beech, oak and holly.

History- Grace Darling

Image
In History, the children have started a new topic all about the seaside. In today’s lesson we learnt about a significant figure. We learnt about the life of Grace Darling and why she became famous. The children started by making prediction and used photographs and pictures from the past to help them. There was lots of super discussion about what she might have done. We then learnt about the brave thing she had done and how she had saved 9 peoples lives from a raging storm. The class worked together to record their ideas. Well done Year 1!

Science Leaf Hunt

Image
To start our new topic in Science the children went outside on the hunt for different leaves. They investigated the differences between the leaves. We found lots of different leaves in the school groups. We then went inside to do some observational drawings and label them with adjectives.
