Educational Visit - Skipton Castle

Image
Year One had a fabulous time at Skipton Castle this week. We learnt so much about the history of the castle and what kinds of people lived and worked inside. All the children were so sensible and we all had lots of fun. Can you remember a fact from Skipton Castle? If so, can you tell someone at home?

DT - Castle project

Year One have been so busy over the half term.  All the Year 1 team are so impressed with all the different types of castles that the children have made.  We can see that you have all tried so hard and have used all different kinds of materials and techniques. Well done!

KS1 International Club Travel to Peru

Image
Today in International Club we learned all about Peru.  We went to Machu Picchu with Rosie and Julian - have a look at their adventure here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9hzTcR2RUo&safe=active Then we learned some Spanish - we found out how to say hello, goodbye and thank you. Finally we made South American arpilleras. Using a cardboard outline we wrapped wool around the shape to create an interesting texture and mix of colours. We had to decide how to attach the wool to the arpillera - we tried using glue and tape, and some of use tried tying a knot in the wool.           Have a look at some of our great finished products!

Art: Explorers of materials

Image
We have continued to explore using different materials to find out what tools create the best dots linking to the French Artist Georges Seurat.  The children then discussed with one another which tool worked best.  The class voted and decided that the cotton buds were the most successful.

Internet Safety Day

Image
Year 1 have been learning about how to keep safe on the internet today.  We read a story about Smartie the Penguin and how he needed help online.  We then wrote Smartie some advice as to how to stay safe online. We should always ask our parents if we need help. Look at our amazing work!

Igloo challenge, complete!

These girls worked really hard to complete our Funky Fingers fine motor challenge on Friday.  Well done! I wonder if anyone else can try on Monday?

Number Day!

Image
Year 1 and 2 had a fantastic morning solving different number problems and making pizza fractions.  We found halves of our pizzas, and some us found quarters. In the afternoon, Year 1 worked hard to solve some tricky number statements.
