 The children explored the tool google earth to look at physical and human features on maps and aerial view photo’s we explored places around the world such as Portugal, Peru and Dubai as well as the features around Leeds and our school. The children could tell me about places they had visited on holiday and the different geographical features they have seen. They created maps together and included labels. 

The children were inspired by the Artist Andy Goldsworthy to create their own sculptures using natural resources. They created shapes using a range of leaves, twigs and stones they found on the playground. The children worked together in teams and thought carefully about how they would create their sculptures. They found different colours and sized leaves, created pictures and patterns.  

The children have been learning the differences between fiction and non-fiction texts. We learnt the common features of a Non fiction text and identified these in a range of books. We looked at the contents page, glossary, index, labels, diagrams, heading and sub headings in the texts.  We found lots of the features in the texts. We then worked together to sort fiction and non fiction texts into group. We found some tricky as they don’t all have the same features.   

The children were inspired by the artist Piet Mondrian to create a piece of art digitally. They used squares, rectangles, vertical and horizontal lines to create a grid. They then used the fill tool to block out primary colours. The children did an amazing job and reflected on their learning after the lesson ‘ they felt confidence in using different tools to create a piece of art.         

Today the children discussed Remembrance Day. We talked about why we wear poppies and that we wear them to remember people who fought in wars in the past. 

 The children learnt about Diwali and how it is celebrated around the world. We learnt about the story of Rama and Sita. We created Diva lamps out of clay.
