This term the children are creating a playground structure to include in the school playground. We have been researching different playground equipment. We have thought about how to make it safe and assessable to everybody. The children were investigating ways to join materials together. We used pipe cleaners and straws to make 3D shapes and thought about how this technique could be used when making our final pieces.    

The children have been learning about the structure of plants. In today’s lesson the children have weeded the allotment. We worked together in teams to collect different plants. We then took them back to the classroom to investigate. They were able to identify different parts of the plants.   

The children have created their own minibeasts riddles. They first read and guests their riddles before creating their own to test with the class. They created some fantastic writing. 

We learnt about some human and physical features of Northern Ireland. We looked at pictures of Belfast and looked at maps of the country. We then learnt about The Giants Causeway. We created a large scale model using sticks and rocks and leaves. .   

  This term the children have been planting seeds. We have planted beans, peas pumpkins and caress. We have observed changes over time and made sure to care for the seeds giving them water and sunlight. 

In Geography this term the children have been learning about the capital cities and countries of the United Kingdom. We went outside and completed an orienteering activity where the children were matching the names flags and cities. We then looked a large outline and placed it on the map.   

In music the children have worked together to play the Xelophone. They have followed the sequence of notes to play new and familiar songs.   

This term in computing the children have been creating pieces of writing using a word processing app on their laptops. They started by including simple words and writing the alphabet to familiarise themselves with the keyboard. We noticed that it isn’t in alphbetical order but that keyboard are all very similar. We have wrote sentences and used the tool bar to change the size and font of the text.
