Year 1 Iveson Blog

We have had a lovely Week before half term. The children prepared food for a picnic on the field including sandwiches, fruit and vegetables!  The children carefully chopped the fruit and vegetables and used a knife to spread the butter and jam. They sliced their sandwiches in halves and quarters which is an objective we have focused on in Maths this half term.  

The children had a fantastic time search for mini-beasts in the allotments. We searched under rocks, in the bark and on the plants to find what different mini-beasts we could find. They were able to find ants, ladybirds, slugs, spiders, centipedes and lots more. We discussed we found the mini-beasts in different areas of the allotment.  

The children have been learning about balanced diets and different food groups. They have been preparing for a picnic we will be having in the final week of term. Today the children were able to practice their cutting skills using the bridge and claw method when. They then enjoyed sharing the different fruit and vegetables together.  

 Today the children have used junk modelling to create their very own mini beast! The children have been learning lots of facts about mini beasts and were carefully thinking about the different parts and features. You were able to select a range of too,s and materials to make these marvellous mini beasts!

  In DT this half term, we have been exploring healthy eating and how to live  a healthy lifestyle. We planned a picnic by creating our own meal plates and discussed the different food groups including diary, fruits, vegetables, grains and meat.  Today, we practiced our cutting skills using the bridge and claw method with selected fruits and vegetables.  The children were cutting experts! We tried the delicious foods after and the pepper was the most popular. 

 Year one had a fantastic day last week celebrating maths day! They had fun making a figure me out in maths and played fun maths games together.
